Every Saturday morning, the Aggressor Nile Queen II® sets sail upriver at 10 a.m. from Luxor and travels the Nile River south to Aswan, where your 6-day/5-night Egypt adventure to explore the land of the pharaohs begins. You board the Aggressor Nile Queen II in Luxor for a hearty lunch and then you you disembark for the first stop of your Egyption adventure.
The Karnak Temple in Luxor is the largest religious temple complex ever constructed in the world, covering about 200 acres (1.5 km by 0.8 km), and is home to colossal statues that stand 42 feet. This sacred space was constructed in reverence to the gods and the pharaohs. It was the end of a pilgrimage and the site for the 27-day Opet Festival, a lavish event that celebrated the link between the god Amun and the pharaohs. From there you spend the remainder of the afternoon exploring the beautiful Luxor Temple built by king Amenhotep III, Rameses II, and finally completed by Tuthmose III on the bank of the Nile River. After a bit of sightseeing, you’ll return to the Aggressor Nile Queen II for dinner and your first night’s stay aboard the ship.
On day two, the Aggressor Nile Queen II anchors at the Valley of the Kings, a royal burial ground for the pharaohs Tutankhamun and Ramses II, among 63 other tombs. This labyrinth of tombs, carved into the rock face, showcases intricate hieroglyphics, vivid frescoes, and a unique peek into the lives of ancient royalty. From there, the journey leads you to the Colossi of Memnon, two gigantic stone statues that stand as sentinels and remnants of the once grand mortuary temple of Amenhotep III.
Day three offers a path less traveled with sights less frequently explored. The ancient city walls of El Kab greet guests with tales woven from an era when this settlement was one of the most prominent cities in Upper Egypt. Just 40 minutes downriver, Edfu awaits. Home to the Temple of the falcon-headed god, Horus, Edfu is one of the most well-preserved ancient temples in Egypt. Its splendor and architectural brilliance serve as a testament to the reverence the ancient Egyptians held for their pharaoh.
The fourth day offers a relaxing breath and a serene experience at Gebel Silsila. After a leisurely breakfast, you will sail amidst the enchanting sights of the Nile as it meanders between two mountain ranges. Larger cruise ships along the Nile tend to bypass this serene spot, offering the voyagers aboard the Aggressor Nile Queen II a private and one-of-a-kind view. You can explore the lesser-known temple of Horemheb, and can stroll through the quarries that once provided the stones for Egypt’s iconic temples to gain a full sense of Egypt’s ancient history. The day ends with a sojourn to El Bashier Island, an oasis where you can swim, explore, and indulge in a Bedouin-inspired barbeque under the starlit sky.
Day five unveils the wonders of Kom Ombo, a unique double temple dedicated to the crocodile-headed god Sobek and the falcon-headed god Horus. Overlooking the Nile, this temple complex provides insight into the harmonious duality of ancient Egyptian deities, and includes a visit to a crocodile museum with a huge collection of mummified crocs.
As dawn breaks on day six, the mesmerizing views of the desert converge with the river near the Aswan Bridge for a breathtaking vista. After an early checkout, you will have the opportunity to admire the splendor of the Philae Temple, marvel at the engineering prowess at the High Dam, and to gaze upon the sheer scale of the Unfinished Obelisk, the largest ancient obelisk known, and which was carved from a single stone. Your fantastic Egyption adventure concludes with a delightful lunch at a local eatery.
